بفية الجميز ما بينبت حشيش ، واذا نبت ما بيعيش ‎[L] in the shade of the sycamore grass does not grow, and if it grows it does not live (supposedly said of a great man, like one oak tree does not grow in the shade of another, or referring to how a great and powerful person might destroy those around him. Supposedly comes from the story of when عبد الفتاح آغا حماده took over ruling Beirut, and after building a luxurious house he paved the alley leading to it with tiles, so its name became زقاق البلاد . He then went to see how the neighbors were, as the saying goes جارك أمان بيتك أمان . One old lady said to him, not knowing who he was, that she was afraid because she had heard that عبد الفتاح had moved into the neighborhood, and she said this saying to him. In response, pleased by her wisdom, he said that she has the right of a neighbor on him.)
