‏إيد وَرَا وْإِيْد قُدَّام ‎[E] empty-handed, as in to arrive somewhere without bringing a gift (a hand behind and a hand in front, as in the position of someone trying to hide their nakedness)
‏إيْدِي على إيْدَك ‎[E] my hand on yours, (meaning lead on!)
‏إيدي على كَتْفَك ‎[E] my hand on your shoulder (meaning I'm here to help you).
‏شال إيدُه ‎[E] he did not interfere, he left the matter alone (he lifted his hand (from the issue))

شال الحَمَام حَطّ الحَمَام ‎[E] the doves flew off, the doves flew down; this is rhythmic chant used by children when pounding on the back of one of their numbe ras part of a guessing game;
‏دُرَة حَمَام = حَمَام يا دُرة ‎[E] vendor's cry: corn as delicious as pigeon (said by vendor's who sell grilled corn on the cob);
‏اللي معاه قِرْش مِحَيَّرُه يجيب جَوْز حَمام وِيْطِيَّرُه = اللي معاه قرش ومحيرة يروح يجيب حمام يطيرُه ‎[E] proverb: the one who has some money and doesn't know what to do with it, buys a pair of pigeons and flies them (a reference to the expensiveness of the hobby);

من الساس لِلراس ‎[E] from head to toe, from top to bottom;
‏من راس لِرِجْل ‎[E] from top to bottom, entirely, as in:
‏انت غلطان من راسَك لرِجْلَك ‎[E] you're totally wrong;
‏هي فوق راسي على طول ‎[E] she is the next oldest in the family after me;
‏بِتْجِيب أولاد فوق راس بعض ‎[E] she has children one after the other;
‏على عيني وراسي = على راسي من فوق ‎[E] expression meaning "with pleasure, certainly"; see also under عين for similar phrases;
‏مَطْرِح ما تْحُطّ راسَك حُطّ رِجْلَك ‎[E] wherever you put your head (your words), put your foot, meaning do your worst, you don't scare me;
‏تحت راسه = بسببه ‎[E] because of him, attributable to him, due to him, his fault;
‏ادّاني كلمتين من تحت راسك ‎[E] he scolded me because of what, due to what you did;

‏شال حد من فوق راسه = بيتنظر كل علطة من حد ‎[E] to carry s.o. above one's head, meaning to count every mistake. The opposite is نزِّل حد من فوق راسه, which means to stop counting their every mistake;
‏لو وقف على راسه = تعبير عن صعوبة او استحالة تحقيق حاجة ‎[E] no matter what he does, even if he stands on his head;

شال مِشَرْشِب ‎[E] fringed shawl

هُوَّ تْقِيْل عشان تِشِيْلُه ‎[E] he's (too) heavy to carry;
‏شال مَسْؤْولِيِّة إِخْواتُه ‎[E] he bore the responsibility for his brothers;
‏شايِل الدِنْيا على دْماغُه ‎[E] he is carrying the burden of the world on his shoulders;
‏بِيْشِيْلِ العَيْلة كُلَّها ‎[E] he supports the whole family;
‏على قَفا مِن يِشِيْل ‎[E] abundant, plentiful, as in:
‏أَيَّام زَمان كانِ الرُزَّ على قَفَا مِن يِشِيْل ‎[E] in the old days rice was plentiful;
‏شال وِحَطِّ فْ نَفْسُه ‎[E] he was offended, he took it to heart;
‏شايِل عَبْدِ القادِر (he looks as though he is) carrying the the troubles of the whole world on his shoulders (literally: he is carrying the servant of the Almighty);
‏شايِل حد ‎[E] encouraging s.o. (اسم فاعل);

شِيْلِ الحاجات مِن عَ الطَرابَيْزة ‎[E] clear the things off the table;
‏شال الكُلْفة ‎[E] he dispensed with formality;
‏شِيْلِ المَبْلَغ دا مِن الحِساب ‎[E] deduct that amount from the account;
‏شال حاجة من الدماغ ‎[E] to take s.th. off your mind;
‏شيل المواضيع من دماغك ‎[E] stop thinking about these things;
‏شايِل إيده من (موضوع) = غسل إيده ‎[E] to deny any responsibility regarding s.th.;

عايْزِين وِنْشِ يْشِيْلِ الصَنْدُوق ‎[E] we need a winch to lift the crate;
‏جِبال شالِتْهُم وِجْبال حَطِّتْهُم ‎[E] mountains picked them up and mountains put them down, in story-telling used to mean it was a long and arduous journey;
‏تشيلك حاجة تحطّك حاجة ‎[E] said when one does an errand that is far off, as though the thing itself is taking you from one place to another;
‏تشيلك بلاد تحطك بلاد ‎[E] countries carry you countries put you down (similar to جبال شالتهم وجبال حطتهم );
‏شالِتِ البَيْت ‎[E] she cleaned the house from top to bottom;

عاوْزِين صالة تْشِيْل تُلْتُمِيت نَفَر ‎[E] they want a hall that can accommodated three hundred people

الصَرَّاف بِيْشِيْلِ الفِلُوس ‎[E] the cashier keeps the money;
‏حاتْأَخَّر، بَسِّ شِيْلْ لِي نَصِيْبي ‎[E] I'll be late, but keep my share for me;
‏أنا شايْلُه لِلزَمَن ‎[E] I'm holding onto it for a rainy day;

تِكُون لِسَّة شايِل مِنِّي ‎[E] do you still bear a grudge against me?
‏ماباشِيْلْش / مِش باشيل: قلبي أبيض بانـسَى الإساءة والحاجات الوحشة اللي صدرت من الناس في حقي. I don't carry grudges;

الغِربال الجديد له شدّة literally: the new sieve has tautness. The intent of the phrase can also be figurative, i.e. the new guy does his job well, or the boss is testing his new authority. There can also be negative connotations, like the boss is flexing his administrative muscle.
‏شالِ المَيَّة بِالغُرْبال ‎[E] proverb: he carried the water in the sieve, meaning he managed the impossible;
‏اِللي ما يْشُوف مِنِ الغُرْبال يِبْقَى أَعْمَى ‎[E] he cannot see through a sieve must be blind (said of one who is blind to the obvious);

كول شال ‎[E] shawl collar;

شَال مِن زَمَان ‎[E.G.] he left a long time ago.

شال دِشْدَاشْتَه وْطَبّ يْخُوض بِالمَيّ ‎[I] He lifted his robe and went wading in the water.

مِن تِطْلَع، لا تِرْقَع (تِرْگَعِ) البَاب حَيْل ‎[I] When you go out, don't slam the door hard,
‏شالِ الكَّلِب (الچَّلِب) ورِقَعَه (وْرِگَعَه) ‎[I] He picked up the dog and slammed him down on the ground.

شالِ الجِّدِر وْسَخَّم إِيدَه ‎[I] He lifted the pot and got his hands black.
‏سَخَّم الله وِچَّك ‎[I] May God blacken your face! Shame on you!

‏مِن الله يْصَخِّم وِجَه (وِچَه) ‎[I] God blackens his face / He does bad things (idiomatic phrase).

شالِ البَيْضَة وْسِرَطْهَا ‎[I] He picked up the egg and swallowed it whole.

شَالِ الكُرْسِي الثِّقِيل (الثِّگِيْل) بْفَدّْ إِيد ‎[I] He lifted the heavy chair with one hand,
‏شالِ الصَّنْدُوق (الصَّنْدُوگ) على ضَهْرَه وْصِعَد لِفَوْق (لِفَوْگ) ‎[I] He lifted the trunk onto his back and went upstairs,
‏ما شال عَيْنَه مِن عَلَيهَا ‎[I] He didn't take his eye off of her.
‏شايِل خَشْمَة عَ النَّاس ‎[I] He sticks up his nose at everyone. He is conceited.

‏إِذَا ما يِدْفَع أُجْرَة، ما رَحَ اشِيلَه ‎[I] If he doesn't pay a fare, I won't take him.
‏هالپِيْكَپ يْشِيل تْلَث أَطْنَان حَديد مِثِل الوَرْد ‎[I] This pickup carries 3 tons of steel easily.

يْشِيل مُسَدَّس ‎[I] He carries a revolver.
‏شَايِلِ فْلُوس وِيَّاك ‎[I] Do you have any money on you
‏المُقَدَّم يْشِيل تاج ونَجْمَة ‎[I] The lieutenant colonel wears a star and crown,
‏شَايِل هَمّ. شْلَون يْرُوح وْيِتْرُك جَهَّالَه وَحَّدْهُم ‎[I] He is burdened with worry. How can he go and leave his children by themselves?

جِيْبِي صْغَيِّر. إِيدِي ما تْطُبّْ بِيه ‎[I] My pocket's too small. My hand won't go in it.
‏هالبُرْغِي ما يْطُبّْ بِالصَّمُّونَة ‎[I] This bolt won't fit into the nut.
‏شَال دِشْداشْتَه وْطَبّْ يْخُوض بِالمَاي ‎[I] He lifted his robe and went wading into the water (this example appears to show طبّ acting as a preverb modifier, but more examples are needed to confirm)
‏طُبّ لِجُوَّا ‎[I] come inside!
‏طَبّْ عَلَينا ‎[I] he fell upon us, suddenly came up on us
‏طَبَّينَا بِالبَيت ‎[I] we entered the house

‏هَزَّه مِن كِتْفَه (چِتْفَه) ‎[I] He shook him by his shoulder.
‏شالِ الكَّلِب (الچَّلِب) مِن إِذْنَه ‎[I] He picked the dog up by its ears.

الهَوَا شال نَفْنُوْفْهَا ‎[I] The wind lifted her dress
‏اليَومِ الدِّنيَا بِيها هَوَا شْوَيَّة ‎[I] Today the weather's a little bit windy.

أُمِّي شالَتْنِي وَدَّتْني اَلخَلْوَة ‎[S] my mom took me and sent me to Qur'an school
‏لَمَّا تْشِيل مِن هِنَا، بِتْشِيْل لِخَالْتَك وْبِتْشِيل لِعَمَّتَك وَلَاوْلَاد خالَك وْلاوْلاد عَمَّتَك وَلِقَرْيَتْكُم (لِغَرْيَتْكُم) كُلَّهْا ‎[S] when you bring something from here, you bring for your (maternal) aunt and (paternal) aunt and your uncle's kids and your aunts kids and for your whole village.

مِنَ الله خَلَقُه (خَلَگُه) ما حَصَل شال لَيهُ سْلاح ‎[S] since the day God created him, he has not carried a weapon

شِيلَ الشِّمِيط وْحُطَّهُم على المِيزان ‎[Y] pick up the bags and put them on the scale
