(بفتح الراء) الفوطة ينشّف بها البلل. موّلدة أو تعريب مقرمة بالتركية (محيط المحيط). وقيل المحرمة المنديل. من التركية mahrama: منديل كبير مطرّز تغطي به بعض القرويات التركيات رؤوسهن (غ. ل). والمحرمة في استعمال العامّة المنديل يمسح به الأنف واليدان. والأرجح أنها تركية من أصل عربي. ويرى رضا:١٢٣ أن "المَحْرَمة منديل اليد وهو خاصّ بصاحبه لا يشاركه فيه غيره وكأنه يحرم على غيره استعماله. والفصيح فيها على هذا المعنى أن يقال المُحْرَمة من أحرمه إذا منعه."
