ثمر الشجر المعروف بهذا الاسم. فصيحه المِشْمِش والمَشْمَش. وهو أنواع حموي، بلدي، كلبي أو كلابي، عجمي، شحمي، لوزي. وقد ذكر التاج والمدّ والمتن إن المُشمُش لغة بعض أهل الشام. وفي التاج أنها مثلثة وأن الضمّ لغة شامية، والكسر بصريّة، والفتح كوفيّة. شجر مثمر من فصيلة الورديات. واسمه العلمي prunus armeniaca أو vulgaris armeniaca .
- لوزي: هو المشمش الحلو البزر.
والعرب لا يلفظونه كذلك بل يقولون مِشلَوز منحوتة عن مشمش لوزي.
